Using Inquiry based learning in the classroom provides students the opportunity to be more involved and hands on with their learning. Through inquiry students can ask questions, explore different ideas, develop communication skills with others, and are more curious around what they are learning. Inquiry based learning can still meet the B.C curriculum requirements when used as a tool for students to explore different topics or ideas they are interested in. Before starting their inquiry, tell students they must be able to show how their inquiry can tie into the B.C curriculum (or the B.C curriculum you’re looking for), then let them explore from there.
In my elementary field experience seminar class we were given the opportunity to do our own inquiry project. I did my project on how alternative seating is being used in classes and how that affects students focus and behaviour.
